Louis Dinklage

Louis Dinklage established a 3,000 head feeding operation near Wisner, in the Eastern part of Nebraska in 1923. By the late 1960’s Dinklage was considered the largest cattle feeder in the country.
When a former partner moved to the western part of the state, he reported that he had found an excellent location to feed cattle. Louis was quick to recognize the attributes of the drier, more arid region, its abundant feed sources and water supply. He envisioned the panhandle as a major feeding area.

His vision was correct, for today, Dinklage Feedyards is one of the largest and most successful commercial feeding operations in the nation.

Dinklage History

Feedyards West

The Feed Yard in Sidney Nebraska was built in 1969 and incorporated as an entity distinct from the family’s first feedyard. Dinklage employee Benny Von Seggern moved from Wisner to Sidney to manage the new Dinklage Company. When he retired in 1997, Dinklage had expanded to six western feed yards – Alliance, Broadwater, Minatare, Mitchell, and Torrington were added to the Sidney Yard.

Approaching the 21st century, the American beef industry faced incredible challenges and uncertainty. Mad Cow Disease scares, restricted international trade, and revolutionary technology changed the face of all businesses, and it was time to adapt or die.

In the early 2000s, Dinklage Feed Yards was able to more than double its feeding capacity by purchasing a large Feed Yard in Proctor, Colorado, giving it a presence closer to the many large beef processors in the area. At the same time, they began selling off some of their smaller facilities, allowing the company to focus their resources and streamline its growing operation.

Most recently Dinklage has also begun operating at a large yard in Fort Morgan, acquired a machining and maintenance facility, expanded its farmground and renovated its Torrington Feed Yard.  Currently Dinklage operates four (4) Feed Yards with over 134,000 head capacity. Dinklage has had a remarkable past; and they are ready for you to be part of their exciting future.
